Victoria Lane Fashions

A month on from opening and it has been emotional. We have been visited by so many of our old friends and customers, all with stories of lockdown to tell; how long-planned family events have been cancelled, holidays missed and how the phone has taken the place of face to face meetings. Some people have managed to hook up on-line using Zoom but it isn't quite the same, is it?

The one thing we all seem to missing is the humble hug; when we are finally given the go ahead to start hugging our family and friends we will know life is returning to some sort of normal.

In the meantime we decided to open for normal trading last month before going into sale a month later than usual. We wanted to allow our customers a chance to see the new stock that had arrived during closure before tempting them with older stock at knock down prices.

It took a great deal of thought regarding the layout of the shop as our normal sale routine was definitely not going to work. We finally rearranged the sale rails in the middle of the shop, while still retaining rails around the walls for the latest fashions and started our half price sale on 15 July.

This reorganisation has given us the opportunity to double the number of people in the shop at the same time, from two to four but this does require us all to wear some sort of face covering in addition to our previous precautions such as using hand gel, following a one way system and wearing plastic gloves, the latter having been thoroughly approved by our customers as they can touch the clothes with confidence.

One particular concern is how to maintain social distancing for customers who are only just emerging from their isolation or shielding period and are a little anxious about venturing out. We are delighted to say that in general everyone is happy with our arrangements but we continue to offer private appointments or consultations over the phone for those who would prefer to stay at home for a little longer.

The times are changing

Usually the fashion industry is well ahead of time with seasonal offerings, autumn ranges arriving in the shop in late June and early July. This year Rabe has promised us a transitional collection in August but we don't have an exact date yet. ERFO are also sending blouses and we will have new jackets from ROFA's White Label collection. As soon as we have confirmation of other deliveries we will pass on the news through our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts.

At the same time as getting our Autumn stock into the shop we are also eager to see the new Spring and Summer collections for 2021. As we mentioned last time, it has not been possible for us to travel to the shows in Germany because of travel restrictions and so new arrangements have been made.

A lot of companies we buy from in Germany have agents in the UK and we understand they will be introducing the new collections in their showrooms in London or Manchester. Others will be using hotels and personal visits to shops to showcase their collections and some shows will also take place on-line using Zoom. So you can be sure that we will still be able to source the best of the best for you.

We are so excited that life appears to be returning to a form of normality in the industry and are looking forward to telling you all about the new fashions (and colours too).

What's your favourite colour?

For many of our customers the answer has to be pink as it is our biggest selling colour in separates. But - what shade of pink do you like?

  Victoria Lane Shop

We've identified 19 shades of pink that pop up in fashion designers' thoughts from time to time and are used to describe the latest fashions each season. Mind you, we've also found names for 19 shades of green, blue and yellow.

Check out our blog for suggestions. How many do you recognise? Read More

Let's get social

An increasing number of our customers are following us on social media and telling us how useful they find it. Because of that we are putting time and effort into marketing through Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to get our news across to our existing and potential customers quickly and succinctly.

This month we are concentrating on our Instagram account to give you a flavour of how we interact with existing and potential customers. Do you follow us? If not you'll find us on the Instagram site and app, making roughly three posts a week, under our 'handle' of victorialanefashions

If you have a Facebook account you may also recognise these posts as we run these two accounts in tandem. Look for us on Facebook under our name 'Victoria Lane Fashions'
