Sometimes things can accidentally work out for the best. As we closed our doors on 5 November the roadworks in front of our shop were in full swing. With normal daily traffic the four way lights at the junction by the shop were causing chaos. Even when we closed there was still congested traffic and worst of all, parking was in very short supply. As you all know, one of the benefits of shopping with us is the free one hour parking spaces outside.

The good news is that the re-wiring of old electrical cables is now complete and by the time we reopen all will be clear again. Hurrah!

While the shop has been closed, as before we have still been open for business. The phone continues to ring with customers wanting to know whether we still have something on the rails that they had seen a few days earlier? Do we have a top to match a certain colour pair of trousers or skirt? When is the new spring stock arriving? (we wish we knew!)

As the weather deteriorates questions have turned to coats (see below for news of our blog this month) and waterproof jackets. We haven't had as many jackets and coats as we would have liked but with the problems everyone in the fashion industry has had we have to be grateful we have had anything at all to sell.

The good news is that when we do re-open we will immediately go into sale. Even better, every sale item will be marked at 50% off original price so there will be some incredible bargains available. Now would be a good time to look back through our social media posts or newsletters and see what items we have been showing; some of them will be included in the sale even though they may have gone onto the rails only very recently.

In the meantime the shop is decorated for Christmas and our sale rails are ready and waiting for 2 December. Cross your fingers and pray and hope we can all meet up again very soon.

Wrap up warm for winter

It seems we're all looking for something new and exciting to cheer up the grey days and drab weather and this year's hot favourites are coats. That's fur coats (faux, of course).

What have we got in the shop to tempt you?

What's happening in the shop?

Let's be honest. During these Covid times it is difficult to plan anything with any certainty. We did manage a few small fashion shows during the summer and those of you who attended one of them will know how hard we worked to keep you all safe.

With Christmas closing in we had planned a few special days to show off the early deliveries of the spring collections but as yet we cannot guarantee what might be arriving - or when. All of the fashion brands have their own supply problems and we have to work to their delivery dates which are later than usual this year.

One event we can predict is that our sale will start as soon as we re-open the shop, which we very much hope will be on 2nd December. All sale items will be marked at 50% off original price which will give you some incredible bargains from this season's stock.

We are also planning to hold a few Christmas coffee mornings for a maximum of four people at any one time. These will be run under the same conditions as our summer shows, complying with the latest Covid requirements. We hope to start these in the week commencing 7 December; please call us on 01423 709 267 to book a date and time.

Let's get social

We're not too sure what it says about our social media accounts but it might surprise you to know that our two most popular posts this month did not feature any of the clothes on our rails!

We're really pleased to say that one of them featured Vicki herself, explaining how you could still purchase clothes from us during this second lockdown. We can't do 'click and collect' but we can do 'call and collect'.

1 November

Hello everyone. Lockdown is back and our doors are closed once again. But never fear, we are still working behind the scenes and will be in the shop Mon to Fri, 10am - 4pm. Phone us, video call or arrange a Zoom consultation with any queries or orders. 01423 709 267 You can collect from the shop doorway; we can deliver in Harrogate or post to anywhere in the world. Keep safe and we look forward to seeing you all again very soon. Vicki

Our second most 'liked' post was of Vicki's dogs. OK, we're cheating a little here as it was posted on 30 October but was too late to include in last month's newsletter. The photo showed the girls in a planning meeting, discussing their tactics for Halloween trick or treat. Apparently the operation was a great success!

30 November

It's Halloween. Time for trick or treats. I vote we go for the TREATS! Let's split up and work Kings Rd. We can meet up later at Victoria Lane Fashions to split the proceeds. Everyone ready? And ... away!

4 November

Still time to buy this fabulous soft grey V neck sweater today before we close the shop for four weeks. Leo and Ugo are a new brand for us this winter and have brought a sparkle to our rails. This deceptively simple design has contrast colour trims and sparkly highlights to brighten up our wardrobes in these dull days.

We may be back in lockdown but that doesn't stop us getting in the mood for Christmas. We've put up the decorations and dressed the window to match. Here are two fab sweaters from Rabe, perfect to wear on the big day.

13 November

A very warm welcome to our new followers and a big 'thank you' to our regulars who have stuck with us through the difficult months of 2020. Here's a little something to brighten up your day: a pretty twinset by Habella in jewel colours and black sparkly trim and the top in black with jewel coloured neck trim. Complete the outfit with a pair of black pull-on Jade trousers by Toni; the jersey fabric helps them to fit perfectly and stay comfortable all day.

We do love Saint James! This longline knitted jacket in dark navy with smart brass buttons is warm and versatile to wear in winter and outside when spring finally arrives.

Our window this week is showing two more fab winter tops by Rabe. On the right is a pretty sweater in white with a grey and black overlay. The longline jacket on the left is a black and white abstract pattern with jet trims. Alone they will attract compliments, together they will make a stunning outfit for Christmas.
