Victoria Lane Fashions

You will be reading this when the big cycle take-over of Harrogate has finished. Some of you will have welcomed the event with open arms and watched the start and finish of every race; others may have found it overwhelming with roads closed and even part of the Stray fenced off. Whatever your thoughts, it certainly changed the atmosphere in the town for a few days.

Thank you to those of you who struggled through the chaos to make it to the shop; we really enjoyed seeing you and appreciate the effort you made.

October should be quieter in town but we very much hope it will be a busy month in the shop as we love to see you all. We have just one event for you this month, our very popular Trouser Fit day on Wednesday 23 October. More details on the web site events page but be sure to book early as places will be very limited on the day; we want everybody to have adequate time to take their pick from the rails and use the fitting rooms. So please do call in or phone the shop as soon as possible to book your place.

Our previously advertised Saint James workshop earlier in the month has now been cancelled. Not, we hasten to reassure you, because it was proving unpopular - quite the opposite in fact! Our customers have been so enthusiastic about the Autumn / Winter 2019 collection that we have virtually sold out of stock! So, sorry to those of you who were looking forward to this; maybe we'll try again next year, a few weeks earlier perhaps?

Fashion show news

One thing that was affected by the aforementioned races was the timing of our autumn fashion shows; we scheduled them a little earlier in the month to avoid a clash with the cycle races.

Unfortunately several of our customers were on holiday at the time which meant they missed out. However, saying that, both days were busy with some new faces in our audience and it proved to be a very successful event.

To make sure as many of our customers as possible have a chance to see our new fashions we will be holding another two shows on Wednesday 6 November, at 11am and 2pm when we will feature winter collections. We've already opened bookings for these so if you would like to join us please call in to the shop, give us a ring or send an email through the web site as soon as possible. We would love to see you there.

You will remember that we used October's shows to raise money for our favourite charity: Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. On Wednesday afternoon we were joined by eight week old Ava, a hearing dog at the start of her training. Now living with Sandra and Peter Scott, Ava is undergoing basic training including socialisation; she was beautifully behaved during the show and if you look at the photos closely you will see her watching our models (and sleeping!). She will move on to full training at 18 months before being placed with her partner for life. We wish her all the best with her career.

We are very grateful for the generosity of those who attended (and several who couldn't but sent a donation anyway) and we are delighted to announce that we raised the fantastic sum of £710.Bearing in mind that it costs around £40,000 to train and maintain each dog we might just have raised enough to support a tail!

Every little helps! Thank you so much to everyone who helped us; what a lovely, generous group of people you are.

See below for photos of our lovely models showing off this season's clothes.

Back to nature

We're loving this season's new colours, taken from nature's own palette. The highlights are rich berry colours - black, blue, holly red and cranberry - teamed with autumn leaves, luscious browns, forest greens, camel and winter white.

Our 'hero' pieces are gilets, both with and without a hood; they come as knitted, quilted and faux fur and are guaranteed to pull your look together while keeping you warm and cosy over the cold winter months.

Check out the checks too, on trend this year, seen in jersey trousers, jackets and skirts.

Talking of skirts we have a super range of boiled wool skirts by Q'neel, available in a rainbow of colours to match or blend with everyone's wardrobe. They come in two lengths, knee length and midi, both giving a very flattering shape.

Patterned knitwear is making an appearance in many of our collections.

Animal prints are popular, this time in chocolate brown with highlights of golden yellow from Rabe.

Just White is featuring black and white graphics.

Golléhaug has made clever use of autumn rust and blackberry, mixed with black and winter white, in its' 'broken brick' sweater ...

... and again by taking basic navy, combining it with cobalt blue and adding splashes of mustard and winter white to create some fabulous tops.

Cranberry comes in with pretty tops from Lucia

And just in case you have an unexpected invitation, look out for the superb cobalt blue print jackets by Select which team beautifully with Georgedé separates.

There really is something for everyone this season plain, patterned, bright berry colours or timeless black and white. Our rails have never seen such a choice. Time to pop in and take a look.

It can't be winter already?

It seems too early to talk about winter but there are rumours flying around that we can expect another Beast from the East this winter and we need to prepare for it!

To help us on our way, this month we have seen deliveries from Lebek of some super new winter coats and jackets. Our monthly blog talks about the range and particularly about their fantastic new material - Thermo-Soft - a revolution in material construction technology.

Imagine a puffer jacket so cleverly quilted that it defines the waist and keeps you warm and cosy, whatever the weather!
